Kings on the Rise on the Stanley Cup Odds

If you were thinking about putting a few dollars on the Los Angeles Kings to bring the Stanley Cup back to California now may be the time.

The Kings are the hottest team in the NHL right now having won eight games in a row. Not only has the streak shot them up the NHL standings, it’s also given them a boost on the NHL Stanley Cup futures at online sportsbook Bodog.

Last week the Kings were in the middle of the pack at +1800. Since their streak hit eight games the Kings are up to +1100 and that rise could continue if they keep putting up wins. The Kings could be even better too, with last year’s leading scorer Anze Kopitar hardly on the board yet with only three points.

While the Kings are inching their way up the Cup futures list the Montreal Canadiens still hold the top spot. The Canadiens are a +900 Cup favorite right now at Bodog. That’s actually down a little from the +650 odds they had a week ago.

Following their 9-0 start to the season Montreal did drop back-to-back games to Vancouver and Edmonton in disappointing fashion. They also lost team and league MVP Carey Price for what is expected to be a week or so due to a lower-body injury.

Montreal may still be the oddsmakers’ favorite at Bodog, but the other Canadian teams are barely on the radar. After Montreal the best odds being given to a Canadian club is the +2000 going to Winnipeg. Vancouver checks in next at +3300, and Ottawa sits at +5000.

The two Alberta clubs, Calgary and Edmonton, are both listed at +6600, and the big longshot is still Toronto at +20000.

Other than the Kings the other team bettors should be watching on the futures are the Dallas Stars. Riding a red hot start from Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin and some solid goaltending from Antti Niemi the Stars have the best record in the Western Conference.

That start has caused the oddsmakers to post the Stars at +1000 on the futures list. As a comparison, before the season started the Stars were barely in the Stanley Cup conversation at +3300.
