NBA Weekend Betting Preview – Feb 17

The NBA is rapidly approaching the halfway point of this year’s 66-game abbreviated regular season schedule and while most of the preseason favorites have worked their way to the top of the standings there have been a couple of unexpected longshots making a move as well. The most impressive teams have been the ones that have not only separated themselves with their play on the court, but with their ability to consistently cover the spread.

The following is our three ‘best bets’ for this weekend in the NBA featuring teams that have already proven they know how to win straight-up as well as against the spread.

New Orleans Hornets vs. New York Knicks (-11) at SportsInteraction
Nobody in the NBA is hotter than Jeremy Lin and his New York Knicks. This Friday night, New York plays host to New Orleans in an effort to extend its current winning streak to eight games as an 11-point favorite. Lin has been the primary catalyst for the Knicks’ dramatic turnaround and has his team back to .500 at 15-15 straight-up and 14-16 against the spread. The Knicks have gone a very profitable 6-1 ATS during this amazing run.
New Orleans has won its last two games, but it is still just 6-23 SU on the year. The Hornets have been much better ATS at 12-17 and are actually 7-5 ATS on the road this season. New Orleans is 3-9 SU in 12 previous road games and this past Wednesday’s 92-89 victory over Milwaukee as a nine-point underdog snapped a six-game losing streak on the road.
The Knicks have won the last six meetings both SU and ATS and with Lin-sanity in full force combined with the potential return of Carmelo Anthony, who missed the last five games with a strained groin, the Hornets are clearly in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Pick: New York 102 New Orleans 90

Dallas Mavericks vs. Philadelphia 76er (-2.5) at SportsInteraction
The defending champion Mavericks have strung together a five-game winning streak to raise their record to 19-11 SU and 18-12 ATS. They are now over .500 on the road at 7-6 SU and are 8-5 ATS. Dallas will most likely be without one of its top scorers with Jason Terry listed as doubtful for Friday’s game.
Philadelphia has been the biggest surprise in the league with a 20-10 record SU and a NBA- best 18-11-1 record ATS. It has been struggling a bit with just two SU wins in its last five games and a 1-4 ATS record during this minor skid. The 76ers are 13-5 SU (12-6 ATS) at home, but just 1-3 SU and ATS in its last four games.
Going back to the 2008/2009 season, Dallas has won five of the six meetings SU and is 3-2-1 ATS. It comes into this game in great form against a 76ers team that has lost their last three games to teams with winning records. This game will be close to the bitter end but without Terry in the lineup, the Mavs come up just short. The Pick: Philadelphia 92 Dallas 90

San Antonio Spurs vs. Buy cheap generic zoloft reviews online without prescription. Los Angeles Clippers (OFF)
The premier matchup on Saturday’s slate has the white-hot San Antonio Spurs on the road against the Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles Clippers. San Antonio has won nine straight and has been a money making machine during this run with an 8-1-1 record ATS. The Spurs are now 8-8 SU (7-8-1 ATS) on the road after winning the first five games of their current nine-game trip.
The Clippers are also in top form with a 6-2 record both SU and ATS in their last eight games. They are now 19-9 SU overall and 17-11 ATS. LA has been especially tough to beat at home with an 11-3 record SU and a profitable 10-4 record ATS.
Something has to give in this one with both teams in top form, but the edge lies with San Antonio, which has won nine of the last 10 meetings SU and is 8-2 ATS including a 115-90 victory on Dec.28 as 4.5-point home favorites. The Spurs keep things going on the road with a hard-fought win over LA. The Pick: San Antonio 101 Los Angeles 98
