PEI Betting Guide

Prince Edward Island is most commonly known for its potatoes, red sandy beaches, and Anne of Green Gables of course. But PEI offers paper-based lotteries, sports betting games and video lottery terminals to fanatics across the province as well. There is also one land-based casino in the city capital of Charlottetown. On top of the growing number of offshore-based online sportbooks, poker rooms and casinos, PEI players also have charitable gaming activities on the Island like bingo, ticket lotteries, and carnival-style games of chance.

PEI Gaming Laws

The PEI Lotteries Commission was formed in 1976 and operates under the office of the province’s Deputy Provincial Treasurer. The PLC is responsible for overseeing and regulating sports betting and gaming activities on the Island. The PLC is a shareholder in the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, which operates ticket and video lotteries in Canada’s four Maritime Provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and Prince Edward Island). The ALC also operates video lottery terminals on behalf of PEI, at licensed establishments across the province.

Atlantic Lottery Corporation

Also known as Loto Atlantique, the Atlantic Lottery Corporation was founded in 1976 and established to operate all lottery games in NS, NB, NFLD, and PEI. Seeing as how the ALC is jointly owned, its headquarters are in Moncton, New Brunswick with over 600 staff across the four Maritime Provinces.

The Atlantic Lottery Corporation is a member organization of the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation. The ILC operates lottery games across Canada. Acting on behalf of PEI, the ALC works in conjunction with the ILC to offer popular lottery games.

These games include Lotto 649, Lotto Max, paper-based and online sports betting games like Atlantic Lotto Proline, and the ProLineStadium.com sports betting portal.

Sports Betting PEI

The Atlantic Lottery Corporation is currently operating paper-based and online sports betting games in PEI under the brand names of PRO-LINE, PRO-LINE Fantasy, PRO-LINE Futures, and Stadium-Bets. You can play these online sports betting games via ALC’s ProLineStadium.com web-based portal.

PRO-LINE

PRO-LINE is a sports betting game that’s odds-based, which permits you to predict outcomes on two-to-eight-event parlay bets. You can parlay moneylines, point spreads, and totals on a PRO-LINE wager. However, it’s important to remember that each and every bet on your parlay has to win in order for your ticket to cash out. You have to make a wager of at least $2 on a PRO-LINE ticket, and you can’t bet any more than $25.

You can bet on sports like:

  • National Football League (NFL)
  • College Football (NCAAF)
  • National Basketball Association (NBA)
  • College Basketball (NCAAB)
  • Major League Baseball (MLB)
  • National Hockey League (NHL)
  • Soccer

PRO-LINE Fantasy

PRO-LINE Fantasy is a sports betting game that’s odds-based, which permits you to parlay anywhere between two and five player and/or team prop bets. Again, you have to make a wager of at least $2 on a PRO-LINE Fantasy ticket, and you can’t bet any more than $25.

PRO-LINE Futures

PRO-LINE Futures is another odds-based sports betting game that permits you to bet on a single selection from a list of games. You have the option to choose from a particular tournament, division or league champion. With PRO-LINE Futures, you have to make a wager of at least $2, and you can’t bet any more than $100.

Stadium-Bets

Stadium-Bets is comparable to PRO-LINE in the sense that it’s an odds-based sports betting game that’s which permits you to predict outcomes on two-to-eight-event parlay bets. And just like PRO-LINE, you can parlay moneylines, point spreads, and totals.

The differences being Stadium-Bets wagering is only available online via Atlantic Lottery Corporation’s ProLineStadium.com portal, and you can’t bet any more than $250. You still have to make a wager of at least $2.

Single-Team Sports Betting

The Atlantic Lottery Corporation and Prince Edward Island Lotteries Commission do not offer single-team sports betting games, as single-team sports betting is illegal under the country’s criminal code. And compared to online sportsbook options operated off-shore, ALC’s parlay offerings offer much worse odds. PRO-LINE wagers have a house edge estimated at over 30 percent, while online sportsbooks such as Spin Sports offer single digits.

Poker and Casino PEI

The Prince Edward Island Lotteries Commission operates one land-based casino in the province. The Charlottetown casino (The Red Shores Racetrack & Casino) offers slot machines, blackjack, live and simulcast horse racing at Charlottetown Driving Park. The Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission supervises and regulates harness horse racing PEI.

The Red Shores Racetrack & Casino also have poker rooms available. Charitable organizations, however, have to apply for licenses in order to hold fundraising initiatives at licensed facilities. While numbers are actually expected to decline over the next several years, the Prince Edward Island Lotteries Commission are currently operating 386 video lottery terminals at 85 liquor-licensed establishments across the province.

Online Betting PEI

Despite the fact that gaming operations are strictly controlled in PEI, there are still plenty of alternatives for gaming and sports betting enthusiasts to enjoy from the PLC and ALC.
